Michigan, are we ready to win?
We’re losing jobs to other states, opportunities for our people, and investments in our communities. Let’s get back in the game.
We have to decide now what our future will look like, or it will be decided for us.
This is our opportunity to work together. To create more jobs. Better jobs. The right jobs. We can’t wait anymore. We need to create opportunities for Michigan to win.
A simple, 4-step plan will get us there.
Creating opportunities to win should be the guiding principles for every economic development policy.
-
Develop Sites
Lack of available, developed land that is serviced by utilities is a barrier to growth. Michigan needs large sites where productivity can begin as soon as possible. We are asking for significant state investment for this purpose.
-
Incentivize Wisely
Michigan does not have as robust a suite of incentives to grow jobs and investment as most of the states we compete with. We support passage of the Michigan Employment Opportunity Program, while continuously evaluating our competitiveness and advocating for additional tools to help Michigan win.
-
Serve Our Customers
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation can be a major advantage in creating opportunities to win. We will work with MEDC leadership to empower the agency to be best-in-class.
-
Prepare the Workforce
Employers need a single touchpoint that provides start-to-finish assistance with their talent needs, including working with state agencies and higher ed institutions to fulfill them.
